Winter Is Looking Bright

Winter is upon us.

The time of shorter days, less sunlight, and colder temperatures.

Whether you look forward to the winter months or not, how we experience these 3 months, give or take a couple of weeks, will depend on how we approach them.

My suggestion if you are a winter fan or not, is to take this change in seasons as a chance to review your current goals. Are you on track to achieving them? If not, what do you need to change to get yourself back on target. What’s not working? What is? What are the reasons behind these answers?

Make adjustments to your goals as necessary remembering they should be both flexible and realistic.

Next, I would recommend setting yourself some winter goals. This is particularly important if you struggle with motivation during this colder time of year. The goals should be specific and measurable. If attitude is an issue, a  goal could be to keep a gratitude journal throughout winter and aim to write 3 positive things every day.

If you struggle for motivation at this time of year, you could set yourself a goal of completing a set number of exercise sessions a week. These sessions could be at home using YouTube for guidance (Note: ANT Fitness offers free 15min exercise sessions on our YouTube Channel); or you might participate in a winter sport; attending a gym; or simply go for a walk, run or cycle.

Talk to a friend, family member or work colleague and encourage them to join you.

Together, you can keep each other accountable.

Another goal might be to exercise in some form every Monday. That will help you build and take momentum into each week. Momentum offers an amazing foundation to both motivation and attitude.

Here at ANT Fitness, we are also putting in place our own actions to help brighten everyone’s winter and in doing so, doing out part to spread positivity and motivation during the colder months.

Every Monday morning, there will be a short free “Kickstart” workout uploaded to our YouTube channel to help start your week right. Find the workout here every Monday.

In July, we are stepping back in time to revisit the era of fluro colours, headbands and leg warmers and arguably the greatest music ever.

Yes, the 1980s are taking over ANT Fitness for a whole month, and you are encouraged to come dressed in your fluro leg warmers and sweat bands, showing off your favourite 80s band, movie, cartoon tee (my He-Man shirt is ready to go).

The month should be bright and lots of fun.

ANT Fitness is also entering teams in various challenges for charities over the coming months. These challenges are a good source of motivation, and provide us with the opportunity to being part of something bigger than ourselves. At the same time, they provide motivation and accountability as we improve our fitness levels not only during the challenge period, but also winter.

In June, we have teams in the Push Up Challenge for Mental Health and Crunches for Dementia.

You can join and/or support the teams here:

In July, we are Hiking to Keep Youth Off The Streets and running 95km over the month to support the Heart Foundation.

You can join the ANT Fitness team for either or both of these challenges here:

All are worthwhile causes.

During the winter months, I will also be encouraging the participation in ANT Fitness online fitness tests that I will upload through the ANT Fitness YouTube Channel. Taking part in monthly fitness tests gives us a tool to measure our fitness level to, as well as providing a source of motivation to be active week to week as we challenge ourselves to improve our fitness and strength levels over the winter months.

And finally, knowing the days at this time of year aren’t as bright as the warmer months, I thought it would be the perfect time to change the colour of my training shirts to be aligned to the ANT Fitness brand colours. So, the next time you attend a class or a personal training session, you can expect to see lots of bright orange and blue colours.

By going into the colder season with goals set, a positive attitude and a plan in place, puts us into a strong position to experience a bright and enjoyable winter, helping us to feel happy and energetic throughout the colder months.

Wishing everyone a bright, enjoyable and fun winter.

Be Active,

Andrew
